"He was our Baudelaire, our Apollinaire...He elevated the song to the level of Art."

Well, that is what the French President François Mitterrand said on the death of Serge Gainbourg in '91. Through the 1980's and towards the end of his life, Gainsbourg became a regular figure on French TV. His appearances seemed devoted to his controversial sense of humour and provocation. He would frequently show up drunk and unshaven on stage. Perhaps his most famous outburst came when he whispered "I want to fuck you" (YouTube) into the ear of American singer Whitney Houston on Michel Drucker's live Saturday evening show.

Leslie Hall

In the never ending series "People who are more talented than Paris Hilton", we bring you Leslie Hall (wikipedia). I just recently stumbled upon this woman who possess all qualities you'd like to see in a modern media personality. She raps. She has golden spandex pants, that would make Eilert Pilarm envious. She has the extravaganza of Mrs. Miller and Divine combined. She has a nice web-page. And has some kewl videos on YouTube. She began collecting gem sweaters in 2000 and has since amassed a over 165 different sweaters according to her February 2006 interview with Bust magazine. Her first TV appearance you can see right here (YouTube)

You Broke My Heart With Be-Bop

Another great timecapsule from probe. From '49 featuring Rosemary Calvin singing about the oh so familiar theme - boy meets girl - only here it is the cool be-bop jive talking city slicker meets innocent hillbilly girl, and the inevitable heartbreak. Some great singing here!!!

Mike Warnke, led to a pot of gold by the light of Lucifer

Warnke, a former "priest" in a Satan-cult - now a born-again christian with a mission, committed a record in '79 A Christian Perspective on Halloween. Thanks to the Scarstuff-blog (go there for more info!) you can download it here (full-zip).

I always wanted to write him a letter and say, Mike, when were you able to have this coven of fifteen hundred people? About the most exciting thing we used to do was play croquet.
—One of Mike Warnke’s college friend

Another Richard Cheese...

Standout track of the album/career is his go-through of Blink 182’s “Feelin’ This”; remade as a 1950s studio romantic drama soundtrack, elevator stylings, light as helium. It’s a fine example of one of the two things Cheese does best: stripping away whatever was standing in the way of the original track achieving its full greatness (i.e., Travis Barker). trout mask paris

Paris Hilton could probably have been named Ensenada Woodland, if her parents consumed their marriage at the captains pad... Why is Paris holding a copy of Trout Mask Replica? Is it a hidden message? Is it a signal to restore normality? Gives me shivers down my spine! Original post here.

Arnie "Skiffle Joe" Norse - Greatest hits

80-year young Arnie is a cult phenomenon in Oslo. Since the 50s, he has been a singer/songwriter and recorded heaps of vinyl. Arnie is a devotee of the slightly "risque", and has numerous appearances on infamous cassette-tape series "Frekkis". Due to a self inflicted injury in Thailand 5 years ago, where he fell off his "one-legged-horse" he no longer brings the monobike into his acts. Norse is a stayer, and so is his accompanying band consisting of blind man Torvinn on endless keyboard-solos and Arnie's wife Nipaporn on tambourine. Off-beat specialist drummer Tino has seized to be (in the band at least).

Arnie can be seen every Friday and Saturday at Tranen in Oslo.

His Greatest Hits album is no longer on rapidshare

Chadbourne - LSDC&W

What a true treat this is - LSDC&W used to be my favourite Chadboure LP! Thanks to dorfdisco braunsfeld it is yet again readily available here. Amazing Beatles covers in neckbreakin' tempo and other interesting ditties... John Zorn is a contributer aswell, filling in the open spaces with bleeps and bloops. Me thinks, this is a great start on the week-end!

Tideland - The new Gilliam flick

Synopsis: Following the death of her drug-addicted mother, a whimsical young girl follows her chemically dependent father to a remote prairie house to discover a wondrous world of magical fireflies and nocturnal bog men in this hallucinatory childhood fantasy from visionary filmmaker Terry Gilliam. Noah (Jeff Bridges) is a burnt-out rock star whose post-superstar voyage to obscurity is hastened by a serious drug addiction that is also shared with his wild-eyed wife (Jennifer Tilly). When the Noah's increasingly erratic wife suffers a fatal overdose, the faded rock star opts to escape the painful reality by retreating to a ramshackle remote home with his young daughter, Jeliza-Rose (Jodelle Ferland). Left to her own devices as her father stumbles about the grasslands in a drug-induced haze, Jeliza-Rose soon ventures into her own fantasy land before making the acquaintance of mentally challenged youth Dickens (Brendan Fletcher). As the two become fast friends and Jeliza-Rose joins the swimsuit-clad Dickens in defeating the menacing shark that traverses the nearby railways, the pair are watched over by Dickens' black-clad sister, Dell (Janet McTeer), who acts as Dickens' guardian and whose overly enthusiastic interest in the art of taxidermy borders on obsessive. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

Too Much Coffee Man / Mustard Web

More likely to be found wrestling with dirty dishes or his hyper-active self-awareness than fighting comic book villains, Too Much Coffee Man (or TMCM as he is known to his friends) has engaged in more anguished navel gazing than Woody Allen has had hot bagels.

Too Much Coffee Man the character is ostensibly a superhero, though he could be more accurately described as a fat whiny bloke with a giant coffee cup on his head. Read the interview with Shannon Wheeler, creator of cult comic book character Too Much Coffee Man.

Frank Zappa & Mike Nesmith

A funny clip from the 60s with Frank Zappa posing as Mike Nesmith of the Monkees, and vice versa. It comes as no surprise that Frank does a better improv, than Mike... On the other hand, it is interesting to see Zappa answering questions on himself... YouTube link

Drug crazed Hilton-dog

«I've had it with the bitch» says former celeb chihuahua "Tijuana B&B". «Paris promised me a life on easy street, but look at me now»

Zappa on SNL with John Belushi

21st of October 1978, Frank Zappa delighted us with St. Alphonso/Rollo - And on guest vocals; none other than John Belushi. See the video here (YouTube).

Great moments with Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie

A «must see» is also Kick Ass. Mystery. Shakespeare Master Class. Barman (hilarious). And finally The Sophisticated song.

Fast Show - Bob Fleming

Genial host of Country Matters, Bob Fleming is a man with a cough. Like a trouper he doesn't let it stop him filming, but it does render most of what he says unintelligible.

He isn't really aware that his constant hacking is a problem, even though it generally stops him finishing any items he's presenting. When finally offered some cough medicine he asks, 'Has it been that noticeable?'

Bob has a selection of similarly afflicted old friends, the sneezing Clive Tucker, hiccupping Murtagh Blethyn and, of course, Jed Thomas, the man who can't stop saying 'ARSE!' We first meet Jed when he joins Bob on Country Matters to talk about the taxidermist's art, but it is on Bob Fleming's Country Favourites that he really comes into his own.

Fast Show - Rowley Birkin qc

Sozzled, rambling old barrister, Rowley Birkin QC, sits in his chair and spins yarns of foreign adventures, mysterious women and exotic beasts, attended only by his equally ancient butler.

Rowley Birkin During his nonsensical mutterings you can make out the occasional phrase - 'took it off below the knee'... 'a rather striking mustache'... 'SNAKE, SNAKE!'... 'Her husband had been entombed in ice. Like this.'... and of course, 'I'm afraid that I was very, very drunk'.

Rowley was based on a man, named Andrew Rollo, who Paul Whitehouse met on a fishing trip to Iceland.

Fast Show - Chanel 9

Buono estente.

Chanel 9 is a combination of every bit of dodgy Mediterranean telly you've ever accidentally seen on holiday.

Presented by the amazing brown-clad, sometimes mustachioed Paul Whitehouse and Paul Shearer, Chanel 9 shows news, sport, weather and the occasional rock opera.

Chanel 9Sport is presented by Simon Day at a very low desk, whilst Caroline Aherne's weather girl, Paula Fisch, is constantly surprised that the forecast is 'scorchio'. Wherever possible, semi-naked women are wheeled on, and the programme is frequently interrupted for adverts for gizmos of all kinds.

The presenters of Chanel 9 speak a bizarre mix of a large number of languages, with regular reference to the unfortunate Chris Waddle. Highlights have included a Christmas disco rock opera called Sprog and a special version of the Singing Ringing Tree.

Boutros Boutros Ghali.
