Friendly Persuation with Otis Fodder

When it comes to "The Cool" and "The Strange" Otis Fodder is a connoisseur extraordinaire. Having extensive knowledge of vast numbers of genres and the ability to mix'em'up to aural delights makes him somewhat of a genius! As a contributor to the now out-of-print "Cool & Strange Music Magazine" he proved time again his insight in numerous reviews of the musical fringe. The projects he's been involved in are too many to go into detail here, visit his website.

Listen to 30 episodes of the (now dead) Friendly Persuasion Radio show that appeared on Luxuria Music in 2005. All shows are one hour long, no talk, just the mix.

Otis Fodder produced 29 in the year and one (on August 2) was produced by the very talented Fortyone. Special guest IDs and theme songs were contributed by Bentley the Butler, Eddie
The Rat
, Flavia & The Motonets, Fortyone, Jima, Jean Jacques Perrey, The Lounge King, Naomi Hall, Mildred Pitt, R. Stevie Moore and Christy Shivers and The Sunsets.

a complete fanatic

You have to watch this video. It shows Tom Cruise, with all the wide-eyed fervor that he brings to the promotion of a movie, making the argument for Scientology, the bizarre 20th-century religion. Making the argument is an understatement. The Hollywood actor, star of movies such as Mission Impossible, is a complete fanatic. "When you're a Scientologist, and you drive by an accident, you know you have to do something about it, because you know you're the only one who can really help... We are the way to happiness. We can bring peace and unite cultures." There's much much more. Let me put it this way: if Tom Cruise jumping on Oprah's couch was an 8 on the scale of scary, this is a 10.

This video's been passed around privately by reporters and writers investigating Cruise's ties with Scientology. Most reporters have been wary of taking on the Scientologists, because they have a history of both litigation, and the harassment of critics. The publication of Andrew Morton's biography of Tom Cruise, which claims he is the second most powerful person in the cult, has seems to have opened the floodgates.

Several indoctrination videos were available on Google Video, on Sunday, and showcased on Gawker, before being removed by the person who had originally posted them. Yesterday, for a few hours, the clip of Tom Cruise discussing his beliefs as a Scientologist appeared on Youtube, and was republished by Radar and Defamer. That video is no longer available, most likely after the Church of Scientology sent in a copyright infringement notice. Gawker is now hosting a copy of the video; it's newsworthy; and we will not be removing it.

Is it cheddar? Is it Brie? No, it is EUROCHEESE!

The Eurovision Song Contest, used to be (and still is) a wonderful mix of questionable talent combined with curious costumes and challenged choreography.

The German Dschengis Khan made a thorough imprint in the Eurovision annals, when they delivered their catchy tune of the same name in 1979. Anyway, Thanks to Jensen Brazil you can have this nice lump of nice and ripe Eurochese to tantalize your ears.

"The Last Joint Venture (Den Siste Revejakta)"

Paranoid is when you imagine someone is following you, but if you're certain, that's different, isn't it?

1979 is ending the 80’s are approaching – rapidly.
Carl and Robert – two slacker best friends who smoke hashish as a way of cheerful living - have been peddling hashish for a decade, hitting an all time high with this last batch: 45 Kilos of pure, high grade Nepalese Hashish destined for the draught-dry Oslo streets. In their own eyes they are not criminals – they simply provide the life-essential drug to a suffering population. But then Glenn comes along, their friend and ambitious financial - backer - destined - to - be - a - yuppie. He has plans to make this deal even bigger than they have been led to believe.

Following the delivery of the hashish, the police are on their tail for heroin-smuggling – a fact they cannot explain as they both hate heroin and would never touch the drug. Finally they both awake from their self-induced haze, and fight back in a hilarious, suspenseful and dramatic ending.

The script, based on Ingvar Ambjørnsen’s cult slacker novel, is a dark comedy story with a crooked view on the époque where the dreamy 70s met the hard 80s.

If you're one of those people really looking forward to this film, and have read the book... Well, then this record by David Peel will probably appeal to you! Thanks again to Zero G Sound!

Complaints received from NASHI

"Hello, miss Dimmu.

Regarding your post Norwegian F-16 Sprays Russian Tupolev (link).

Nashi have received information about this so called incident, and we would like you to produce real evidence of the pink-dyed plane - if you cannot do so, we will regard your post as bad humor.

The photos in your post looks like a bad Photoshop™ job. It looks fake, and we've found similar photos WITHOUT the pink pigment.

Why are you trying to deface our proud airforce, our country and our GREAT LEADER, prime minister - Владимир Владимирович Путин? You should be ashamed! Who liberated your weakly nation from Nazi occupation, may I ask?

Stop your slandering, and your ill humored spoofs!

Nashi representative. XXXXXXXX"

Norwegians want more airshows

After the paint job incident on the 24th, Norwegians cry out for more airshows.
"We want more", says spokesperson Bjarne Gulliksen, director of the Vintage Aircraft Club. "We seldom see such bold attempts to get large heaps of junk airborne" [...] "The Bear had it's maiden voyage in 1952, and the Russian Air force is keeping it operative until 2040" [...] "The Bear is now regarded as a greater threat than earlier, caused by fatigue of the engines and fuselage." [...] "You could probably assemble your own Bear, from all the parts that are scattered along the Norwegian coastline", says Gulliksen. Norwegian authorities welcome this strange display of air dominance, as Norwegians on the whole are great enthusiasts of historic relics. "We are lucky", says Gulliksen, and continues; "but we feel somewhat ridiculed, by the fact that our air defence is not given a more up to date challenge..." [...] "I mean, why do they show us dentures when they ought to display fangs... "

The paintjob story is well documented by now, but some forums are still discussing its validity;

Norwegian F-16 sprays Russian Tupolev

Norwegian fighter planes took off yet again to identify Russian air crafts violating Norwegian airspace.

The Russian Tupolev 95- Bear has been a frequent visitor along the Norwegian coast this fall. On December 24th, - Two Norwegian F-16s tracked two Tu-95s over the Barents Sea along the borders of Norwegian air space continuing towards Shetland.

A strange incident occurred on the second lift-off Monday the 24th, when an F16 from the 332 Bodø based squadron dumped 500 kilos of pink dye while intercepting the Tu-95s. Norwegian Military officials deny that this was an aggressive response. "The crew of the Tupolev Tu-95MS strategic bombers on the planned flight over the neutral water area of the Barents sea and Arctic oceans, reported that they witnessed F-16 interceptors of the Norwegian air forces approaching them", Interfax news agency quoted Alexander Drobyshevsky as saying. The Russian pilots claim that the dye could have caused major engine failure, and that only luck prevented the oily dye from being sucked into the air intakes, according to a statement made through Interfax. The dye is normally used for rehearsal purposes, and is non-toxic, non-flammable and bio-degradable, according to sources. The Norwegian F16 pilot; who has been grounded until further investigations have been carried out, has not been available for comments.

A Ding Dong Dandy Christmas!

Another favorite here at Brainwerk studios. The Three Suns. Some say this was the peak of their career here with A Ding Dandy Christmas! What Lenny Dee does for the organ, these guys do for the xylaphone and tuba. Is this not one of the coolest covers ever?

Go here for the three suns

Ho dee ho dee ho dee hundred

Uncle Waldemar Hepstein just informed me that the first day of christmas is the hundred year birthday of the 20th century's foremost vocalist-dancer-bandleader-composer-linguist-actor-snitch (and the most well dressed gentleman), Cabell Calloway III.

Off with the ho-ho-ho-music and get on with the hi-de-ho loud to the max!

Merry Christmas from Dimmu Borghild

Envy

Ok, because the daring videos of Kristoffer Schau was deleted by the user. Here is a substitute - Kristoffer as a baby, 'cause being a baby is envious... no commitments, you're fed, looked after etc..

Vintage Dopeheads

Dope and Glory - Reefer songs from the 30s and 40s... CD1 & CD2. Thanks to El Diablo Tun Tun. And remember - just because the tunes are performed in a giddy manner, doesn't mean that drugs are less harmful. Most of the performers have passed on!

Autocannibalism, not for the faint of heart

Currently Norway's got a tv-show/reality/comedy/religious, where Kristoffer Schau is committing all of the 7 deadly sins, hence the name of the show "the 7-deadly sins" (homepage)

As the program commences along a sinfull road towards WRATH, we're taken to Israel where mr. Schau undergoes a circumcision in a Jerusalem hospital...

Quote mr. Schau: It seems to me that I almost always inflict lasting injury onto myself by what I do. But the physical repercussions this time are more noticeable...

See the clips that were too much even for Norwegian TV:

Off with it - now eat it (YouTube) UPDATE: removed! (should have figured out it was just viral -ad)

Walkin' 'round in women's underwear

Lacy things -- the wife is missin',
Didn't ask -- her permission,
I'm wearin' her clothes,
Her silk pantyhose,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear.

In the store -- there's a teddy,
Little straps -- like spaghetti,
It holds me so tight,
Like handcuffs at night,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear.

In the office there's a guy named Melvin,
He pretends that I am Murphy Brown.
He'll say, "Are you ready?" I'll say,"Whoa, Man!"
"Let's wait until our wives are out of town!"

Later on, if you wanna,
We can dress -- like Madonna,
Put on some eyeshade,
And join the parade,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear!

Lacy things... missin',
Didn't ask... permission,
Wearin' her clothes,
Her silk pantyhose,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear,
Walkin' 'round in women's underwear!

Retro Christmas

"The compilation features 25 songs, one for each day until Christmas day. The theme is as the title of the compilation suggests, mostly 50s, 60s and 70s Christmas songs. You will most likely recognize the titles, but probably not have heard them played like this (well, not all of the songs anyway). Happy holidays from Ultra Swank!" Get it from Ultra Swank!

Se Torsken - Codpaste

Codpaste with People Like Us and Ergo Phizmiz (link to page, with podcast)

"Codpaste" is a weekly podcast series in which the two artists People Like Us and Ergo Phizmiz will attempt to compose collage music from the very beginning, in a "work in progress" style, attempting to open up the creative process. The theory is that it is rare to see compositions made from the outset, and usually the audience are only invited in once the piece is finished, done and dusted. It could be that new light may be shed on the creation of art if the curtains are opened and the audience are given access to the raw, the imperfect and the wrong as well as the polished and the finished.

Intelligence vs Intelligence

The Iranian nuclear weapons program was ended in 2003 according to this american intelligence eastimate (pdf).

In August this year President Bush "warned" the world of a nuclear holocaust in the middle east. That could be set off by... Iran...

It is admirable to see a man like mr. Bush still standing on his feet, when he repeatedly fires shots at them.
